Intro:
The music video will begin
with montage editing which will contain several parts of our music video; each
clip will be very fast and short.
Verse one:
The music video start off
with a frozen image which moves forwards and backwards for a few second which
is a tight close up of the artists face in the white box set. Then we cross cut
to the chess game that our protagonist is playing with her ‘lover’, this is
supposed to represent their relationship and love life – this is a long shot.
Then we get a slip screen: screen one will be a close up of our protagonist
face thinking where to place the chess piece and the second screen will be of
her winning the first move – the second screen will become a main screen, this
is will be a high angle.
Then we cut to a low angle
long shot of our protagonist which cuts to a mid-shot and when she says ‘I
create’ we will have an extreme close up of her index finger, she will be
making a spin gesture with it, this will lead the camera to spin around her to
create a dramatic scene to display that she is powerful. The spin of the camera
will have close ups, mid-shots and long-shots of her.
‘La-La-La’ once again will
be a frozen image of a tight close up of the artist’s face this will be our
motif through the music video. Then we will cross cut to the high angle of the
chess game, a panning shot of the board and two close ups of the two players.
‘The-The-The’ will be a
frozen image to carry out the motif. ‘You’ll come back for more’ this would be
a mid-shot with the protagonist wagging her index finger to show the movement
of coming back this once again displays that she is powerful and strong.

Chorus:
At the start of the second
verse we will cut to a different location – a bedroom. The ‘two lovers’ will be
sitting on the bed messing and playing around this will include shots such as
close ups, long shots, high angle shots and close up shot of him reading her a
book. Moreover, the close up will lead to a point of view shot of the
antagonist reading the book. Then we cross cut to a different location –
Beckton hill: this will be a wide long shot of her opening her arms to
represent freedom.
Furthermore, we will cross
cut back to the white box of them playing the chess game. ‘Sweep me of my feet’
will be of the antagonist knocking over the protagonist chess piece this will
be shown by an extreme close up and a low angle shot of him, this will lead to
a mid-shot reaction shot of her being surprised and annoyed.
From ‘When I’m out there’
to the end of the verse ‘Come on and take my seat’ we will have performance and
ellipsis of her moving across the white box – this is a replication and
intertextual reference to Nicole’s – Boomerang music video this will connote
female power and strength.

‘Upside down’ we will have
a three way split screen of long shots of the protagonist and they all turn
upside down one after another – this links to Andrew Goodwin’s theory of lyrics
matching the visuals to create a deeper meaning.
Then we will have a side
long shot of the two players playing the chess game, this will lead to a high
angle shot of the board, then two close ups of the two players – direct mode of
address. Moreover, it will go back to a high angle shot of him making a move
and winning ‘let me see the way you work it boy’.
Furthermore, we will
create a mirror effect when the artist is performing, this will be a long shot.
Additionally, there will be a shadowed effect of the game whilst a main clip
will be of the performance this will be a mid-shot. Then we will get a close up
of the artists face when she says ‘My name is Eveline’ this is a form of
advertisement of the artist as she is stating her name in the song.
Moreover, the next scene
will be an intertextual reference to Lady Gaga’s – Poker face music video as we
will create a similar party scene in the white box set. This will allow the
audience to understand that our protagonist is not only powerful but also
unique. The party scene clip will then be turned upside down as the lyrics once
again say ‘upside down’ this is another motif of our music video – the lights
will be turning off and on to create a disco feeling to it and to create
chaotic scene.

Verse two:
The verse will start with
a frozen image of a tight close up of the artist’s face which will zoom out to
be a long shot of the artist and her just having a direct mode address and
singing, while more layers of her appear behind her – they will be all dancing.
When the lyrics will be ‘disappear’ all the layers will disappear one after
another and we will be left with the central layer of her singing. This is
intertextual reference to Nicole’s – Boomerang music video; intertexual
reference to her will be made through the whole music video as she is
considered to be a strong female.
Cross cut to the chess game
of a low angle mid-shot from the side of the protagonist lifting her chess
piece, ready to make a move this will lead to a point of view shot from her, we
will be able to see the board, she will have a successful move. Then we will
have a tilt up and a reaction shot of him getting angry due to the fact that he
is losing. This will lead to a flashback of him actually losing her before they
broke up. The flashback will be a tracking shot of the protagonist walking down
the road all dressed up and he will be following her like a lost puppy. We will have close ups of him screaming her
name this will link with the lyrics ‘When you scream my name’.
(1.28)
Chorus:
The chorus will start off
with a long shot of the two ‘lovers’ laying in the bed and reading poetry this
will be a point of view shot from him looking down on her and her smiling.
Furthermore, we will then cross cut back to the protagonist walking down the
street to display that they are over and now she is the powerful one.
‘Just sweep me off my
feet’ we will cross back to the them playing the chess game this will be a two
shot and then she will stand up and knock all the chess pieces over this will
display that she is powerful and is turning the world upside down. This will
contradict the lyrics as she says ‘show me the way you work it boy’ but in
actual fact she is showing him that she no longer needs him. ‘It’s good to know I’m free’ will cross cut
back to her walking down the street again.
(1.42)
‘Upside down’ will be a
long shot of the protagonist in the white box which will turn to a three way
split screen, each screen one after another will turn upside down to have a
link with the lyrics. We will then go back to the chess game mid shot and then
we will get close low angle close up of her face just singing, this will lead
to a point of view shot and a tilt up to him, we will see that he is very
nervous.
Furthermore, we will
create a mirror effect when the artist is performing, this will be a long shot
of her performing. Moreover, after the mirror effect we will have montage
editing of different clips of her being a good girlfriend but then in the end
she will become independent and she will leave him.
Lastly, we will have the
last three lines of the chorus as performance, the shots that we will be using
are close ups, and long shots and lots of high and low angle shots to show that
she is very powerful and strong. When the lyrics say ‘party’ we will have
people appear behind her and they will just dance create a club-like scene and
when the lyrics will say ‘upside down’ we will turn the clip upside down.
(2.05)
Bridge:
As the lyrics say ‘It’s a
men’s world’ we can see that the male antagonist win’s the game, this thus
connotes to the lyrics of the song, which follows Goodwin’s theory or the
lyrics and visuals having a relationship. This will be presented by long, mid-long
and mid shots.
As the verse develops ‘all
my crazy girls’ we will have a party scene however at this moment all the girls
will be a sitting and the men will be dominating and dancing, while they’re
bored and annoyed. But as the words change to ‘get up of your feet’ the girls
will stand and grab the men, pushing them to sit down and now they will be
dominating. This will make them have the dominance and power and take over the
scene, relating back to them being strong and powerful. This will consist of a variety
of long, mid-long, mid as well as close up shots.
As the line ‘all my crazy
girls’ repeats, the girls will stop and in sync spin their head to connote with
the ‘crazy’ theme. This will be shown by a long shot.
At the end of this verse,
the scene will cross cut from the party scene back to the game of chess and the
female protagonist will change to be on the winning side and we will see her
winning by a close and mid-shot and finally ending the verse with a close up of
her face with a smirk.
(2.35)
Chorus:
The protagonist picks up
the antagonist by his hand this is done by her looking down on him and then we
will have a close up of his tie, she will grab that and pull him up. As she is
pulling him up we will have a long shot. Moreover, she will spin him around by
his tie, to represent that she is playing him now. This will lead the camera to
spin around them to create once again a chaotic scene. When the lyrics say '
You'll be hoping I'll be good' we will have a long shot of the protagonist
performing which will then go to a close up as she says 'My name is Eveline'
this is effective as at the end of the song she reminds the audience who sings
this song. Lastly, the last six lines of the chorus we will just have a part
scene and we will just turn the clips upside down.
This is a final synopsis for our music video. Writing it all out makes it very clear and hopefully, once we start filming, it will be useful so that we know exactly what to film.
